Last updated: 2 October 2026

This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use christianstory.com, why we collect it and what rights you have. We process personal data in line with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where it applies, the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

2. What data we collect and why

Visiting the website

When you visit the site, our hosting provider automatically logs technical data such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you request and the time of the request. We use these logs only to run the site securely and to find errors. They are deleted after a short period. We do not use advertising or analytics trackers.

Newsletter

If you subscribe to our newsletter, we store your email address (and your name, if you give it) and send it to our newsletter provider. We use it only to send you updates about Christian Story. You can unsubscribe at any time through the link in every email. We then stop emailing you, but keep a record of your sign-up until you ask us to delete it. The legal basis is your consent.

Donations

When you give, you enter your payment details directly with Stripe. We never see or store your full card or bank details. Stripe shares your name, email address, billing address, payment method type and donation amounts with us. We keep a record of your gifts to thank you, to manage recurring donations, to issue receipts and to meet accounting obligations. Donors may also receive updates by email, which you can stop at any time. The legal basis is performing our agreement with you, our legal obligations and our legitimate interest in keeping in touch with supporters.

If your gift qualifies for a thank-you reward, we ask for a recipient name and postal address after checkout. We use them only to send you the reward and keep them with your donor record until you ask us to delete them.

If you give through Trustbridge, Trustbridge handles your data under its own privacy policy.

Contacting us

If you email us, we use your message and contact details only to reply to you and keep the correspondence as long as needed.

Job and internship applications

If you apply for a position, we use your application documents only to assess your application. Unless you agree that we keep them for future openings, we delete them within six months after the position is filled.

3. Embedded videos

Our videos are embedded from YouTube, a service of Google. When you open a page with a video, your browser connects to YouTube before you press play. YouTube receives your IP address and may set cookies, store data in your browser or collect data under Google's privacy policy. Links to our YouTube and Instagram pages take you to those platforms, which have their own privacy policies.

4. Cookies

The public website does not use tracking cookies. We only set technically necessary cookies, for example to keep editors signed in to our content management system. Embedded YouTube videos and the Stripe checkout may set their own cookies.

5. Service providers

We share personal data only with providers that help us run the site:

  • Stripe – payment processing
  • Flodesk – newsletter and donor emails
  • Resend – sending system emails
  • Cloudflare – storage of media files and network services
  • Our hosting and database providers – running the website
  • Google (YouTube) – video hosting

We do not sell your data. Some of these providers are based in the United States or other countries without equivalent data protection laws. In those cases, we rely on recognised safeguards such as the Swiss-US Data Privacy Framework, the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.

6. How long we keep data

We keep personal data only as long as we need it for the purposes above. Newsletter sign-ups are kept until you ask us to delete them. Donation records are kept as long as accounting and tax law require, which in Switzerland is usually ten years.

7. Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and restricted access to our systems, to protect your data from loss and misuse.

8. Your rights

Under applicable data protection law, you have the right to:

  • ask what personal data we hold about you
  • have inaccurate data corrected
  • have your data deleted
  • restrict or object to how we process it
  • receive your data in a portable format
  • withdraw your consent at any time, with effect for the future

To use these rights, email info@christianstory.com. You can also complain to a data protection authority. In Switzerland, this is the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).

9. Changes

We may update this policy when our services or the law change. The current version is always published on this page. See also our Imprint.
